SOFIA ASTROM is a director and writer whose work has won prizes at Worldfest-Houston and other international festivals. Born in Sweden and based in Los Angeles, she is a graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory. Astrom is the recipient of the 2015 WIF / Tiffany & Co Award for her directorial work. Her award winning short film MACKENZIE, tells a coming-of-age story about two sisters encounter with anorexia and has screened at festivals world wide.


MOONWRAPPED (“Beautiful!” - Variety, “A heart wrencher” – Dan Harmon), a black and white animated music-video for Richard Edward of Margot & the Nuclear So And So's, has put Astrom on the map as a respected music video director. Her following music-video BONE DRY for the world-renowned rock-band Eels had its world wide release on April 6th with immense success (“Brilliant” – Independent, “Beautiful” – Animation Magazine). Her award winning short films; THINGS ON THE GROUND, KISS-TAG and SUMMER DREAM has made successful festival runs and her collection of animated shorts is part of the permanent exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Gothenburg since 2013.

As part of her thematic exploration of coming of age stories, Astrom is currently completing the feature screenplay SNOWSTORM. A story about five teenagers trapped in their High School during a not to be reckoned with snowstorm. It’s a story about friendship, love and identity.
